Warren Jeffs, the head of a polygamist cult, is no longer allowed to make phone calls from prison, according to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
Michael Graczyk of the Associated Press reports that prison officials are investigating to determine if Jeffs broke prison rules with two phone calls he made on Christmas Day.
According to Graczyk, Jeffs is suspected of using the prison phone to preach to his followers on the outside.
“Officials believe the calls Jeffs made to two approved people on his phone list were broadcast on a speakerphone to his congregation.”
Jeffs, 56, is serving life in an East Texas prison. He was convicted last year of sexually assaulting two girls — who were 15 and 12 at the time — whom he’d taken as “brides.”
