Staff writer Ann Smajstrla reports:
A Muslim woman who asked that bacon be removed from her sandwich at a Garland TGI Friday’s says she later found it stuffed into the straw of her to-go cup.
Nicole Queen of Plano was eating lunch with her friends at Firewheel Center on Tuesday when she asked the server to take her club sandwich back and remove the bacon. Consumption of pork is restricted in the Muslim faith, which Queen has practiced since converting from Christianity in 2007.
When she left the restaurant, the server asked if she wanted a free to-go beverage, according to a post Queen wrote on Facebook. When Queen took a sip of the drink, she tasted bacon and discovered bits of it in her straw.
Queen said she took the cup to the restaurant manager who told her that the wait staff has no access to the kitchen and wouldn’t do such a thing purposely.
